sea roots somatics is the project of
Clare Olivares, MA
I am a somatic practitioner who supports queer & trans communities, neurodivergent folks, and anyone who longs to reconnect with their bodies as a source of wisdom, dignity, and power.
Surviving the realities of ongoing stress, trauma, and oppressive social conditions leaves many of us feeling stuck, disempowered and disconnected from ourselves and one another. Politicized somatics can support us to access a felt-sense of choice, self- trust, and grounded power, even in the face of ongoing pressures.
Together, we can partner to clarify your vision, shift embodied patterns, and align your ways of being and taking action with a sense of deeper sense purpose for yourself and the world.

A bit about me
I am a white, trans nonbinary genderqueer who is also neurodivergent and disabled. I have a long history navigating medical and psychiatric systems, and my practice arises from the learnings I’ve gained through my lived experiences surviving these systems and healing outside of them. My roots trace back to people whose lives were intertwined with the sea, primarily from Irish, Spanish, English and other Western European ancestries. I grew up in Los Angeles, on the unceded lands of the Gabrielino Nation, and have lived in Spain for more than five years. Currently, I am practicing online, and in-person in Barcelona, where I live with my partner and our many plants! When I’m not facilitating healing spaces, I love swimming in the nearest sea, learning about European paganism & animism, and crafting with my queer buddies.
A bit about my background
I arrived at somatics through a winding path in community mental health, education, academia and care work. I completed my BA in Psychology at Brown University, and MA in Third Generation Psychotherapy at the International University of Valencia. While these programs were important to my path, they taught me as much through their limitations as through their offerings.
In dealing with my own emotional struggles through the years, I found refuge in movements for collective liberation, especially in abolitionist peer support and radical mental health spaces. When biomedical models and psychiatric diagnoses consistently fell short, these spaces have given me a framework to understand how individual trauma compounds with social and historical oppression to keep many of us feeling sick and disempowered. These lineages root me in values of self- determination and solidarity that form the foundation of my practice.
It is from this history that I arrived at politicized somatics, training with the Strozzi Institute and in the lineage of generative somatics. Somatics has not only connected me to a beautiful community of people weaving the work of holistic healing and social change, but it has also restored a sense of trust in my own body’s wisdom, and empowered me to engage with my own personal and family histories with compassion and accountability.
